IP Enrichment

IP Enrichment

What is IP enrichment?

IP enrichment is the process of resolving a raw IP address to a set of structured attributes about the organization that owns or uses it. When someone visits your website, their browser sends requests from an IP address. That address is the only identifier available without asking the visitor for any information.

Evident looks up each IP address against multiple data sources and returns:

Field Description
Business name The company or organization behind the IP
Organization name Legal or network organization name (may differ from business name)
Domain eTLD+1 domain associated with the organization
Industry Classified type (technology, finance, healthcare, education, government, telecom, etc.)
Country / Region / City Geographic location
Confidence score How reliably this IP was matched to this organization (0–1)
Quality score Composite score: completeness + specificity + provider consistency
Infrastructure flags Whether the IP is a cloud provider, CDN, VPN, proxy, or hosting network

What Evident can and cannot identify

Evident identifies organizations, not individuals. It works by matching IP address ranges to company ownership records and network registrations. This means:

  • Good matches: businesses with dedicated IP ranges, corporate offices, and known company networks
  • Partial or no match: residential ISP addresses, shared hosting, mobile carriers, anonymizing VPNs, and any IP not registered to a specific company

IPs that don’t resolve to a recognizable business are still returned with geographic data but will have a low confidence score. Infrastructure IPs (cloud providers, CDNs, proxies) are flagged separately and excluded from the Accounts dashboard by default.

Caching

Enrichment results are cached for 14 days, so repeat lookups for the same IP return instantly without hitting external providers. Account tracking limits are based on unique companies identified per billing month — see Quotas for details.
